Maj Gen NJ George
Veteran from Garhwal Rifles
Gen George was born and brought up in Mumbai and studied in St Xaviers High School before he joined the National Defence Academy. He is a postgraduate in Defence Studies from Madras University. He is married to Mrs. Anita George who is a graduate from Allahabad University. She has worked at the US Embassy in New Delhi, managed a School and also managed a Training institute in Delhi.
Major General NJ George, was commissioned into the GARHWAL RIFLES in 1982 and has completed 37 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army. During his service the General Officer has served in all the border states and took part in various operations including OP BLUE STAR, OP SHANTI, OP VIJAY, OP PARAKRAM and OP RAKSHAK. He has actively participated in Counter Terrorist operations in Punjab, J&K and Manipur and he suffered gunshot injuries in an encounter with terrorists in J&K while he was commanding his battalion.
Gen George has held prestegious Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. He commanded his battalion in J&K, his Brigade and Division in the North East. He has been an Instructor (Adjutant) at the Indian Military Academy and the Army War College. In addition to being the Chief of Operations at the Brigade, Division and Command level, he has been a Military Observer in a United Nations Mission in Liberia. He was also the Defence Attache to Moscow (Russia). He was recently the Commandant of Selection Centre South which is mandated to select Officer Candidates for the various Training Academies. He has thrice been awarded with the Chief Of Army Staff Commendation.
