Career in Indian Foreign Services

Dr. S. JaiShankar joined the Indian Foreign Services and started his diplomatic career in the Soviet Union. He served as a third secretary in the Indian Embassy in Moscow and later earned a promotion to second secretary. During his time in Moscow, he gained valuable experience in balancing the relations between the United States and the Soviet Union.

In 1984, Dr. S. Jaishankar moved to the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he served as a first secretary, handling political affairs. He later became the political advisor to the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka, playing a crucial role in managing the political establishment's narratives and ensuring the integrity of India's engagements.


Contributions as Indian Ambassador and Foreign Secretary

Dr. S. Jaishankar's contributions as an Indian ambassador and foreign secretary were noteworthy. He served as the Indian Ambassador to Japan and contributed to enhancing economic stability and bilateral relations between India and Singapore. He played a key role in the implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement between India and Singapore, which significantly boosted bilateral trade and business ties.
